AVQ scoops major accolade
AVQ Ltd, audio-visual systems integrators, have scooped major accolades in the Action International awards at a ceremony in the Hilton hotel, Stansted.
They were among 30 companies nominated for the "turn-around" awards sponsored by HSBC Bank. Their success was achieved with the help of regular coaching from one of Action International's network of 35 coaches who operating throughout the UK.
The Action International Marketing Award went to AVQ Ltd, who are based at the Bull Comercial Centre in York, a firm which installs audio visual and video conference equipment for major universities, blue-chip company boardrooms and military and research establishments.
Just 12 months ago, company directors Phil Brunton, Richard McAuley and Geoff McAuley, embarked on a programme of increasing turnover and profits by strengthening the company.
A "very proud" Phil said: "It had previously been boom and bust turnover, seasonal lows, and we were spending up to 90 per cent of our time working in, rather than on the business, which we found to be quite stressful. We knew we were good technicians but we had little formal business and management training and so the company was not achieving its full potential."
As the coaching exercise progressed, things dramatically changed for AVQ. They doubled turnover, invested in understanding their advertising requirements, systemised the business and management systems, gained Investors in People accreditation and attracted additional support from the bank.
The eight-person team also chose to deal with several contracts simultaneously, rather than concentrating on just one at a time. Their strategic marketing meant that the organisation was able successfully to address all their previous problems.
The company went from a relative low into high profit and at the same time capitalised on having been the first in the UK to receive a Gold Standard Certified Audio Visual Solution Provider (CAVSP) on the basis of its tested technical skills.
AVQ is now going from strength to strength and is better equipped than ever to provide a top flight service for all its customers.
